We have all sent emails that we wish we could retrieve before the recipient reads it. Whether you sent it in the midst of a heated disagreement or maybe you just didn't have all the facts. In my experience (especially in the "techy personality" world) people can be short or sarcastic in email messages. If you are not willing to say it to their face then don't say it at all.
Oops! Sent that Message? This article reminded me of one of our discussions in class. Some of these points are obvious but still make good sense. What annoys me the most is when people type in all CAPS or do not include a subject in an email. What I try to remember when sending an email is that it will likely get sent to the world. Don't write anything you are not will to share with everyone.
THANK YOU. HAVE A NICE DAY.

I like your comments about your words being seen by all the world. Joe Showker tells students "be careful what words you write today as you may have to eat them later". When I teach the unit on proper e-mail usage I always go into a rant about communications. Depending on the mood of the person reading, your message my be interpreted differently than you intended.
Good tips! I know that our school division is preparing to setup an email archiving server. Federal law now mandates that entities receiving federal money do this. As far as I know, this beast of a server will have a record of every email sent and received. I'm not 100% sure of this but I want to say it will even be able to save messages that the user deletes before sending. We have chat capabilities in our email program and those will be archived too.
There are certain e-mail programs which allow users to un-send their e-mails, provided they have not yet been read by the recipient. This is helpful when you start an e-mail in a rage, then after sending it, and thinking more about it, you change your mind! First Class e-mail is one such program. I know Rockingham County Schools and Waynesboro City Schools uses it. I am working with a principal this year that wishes every day he had this system back. He can’t stand our system – IPSwitch (http://www.ipswitch.com/products/imail/index.asp). It’s a very basic service which does not promote collaboration or offer many advanced e-mail features.
I have used an email system like Nicole mentioned that will un-send email. I liked it a lot- not because I sent ranting emails (which is just what my personality would do :) ) but because I would find a misspelling or grammatical error. This was especially helpful if the email went out to several people, I didn't have to be embarrassed because of a simple mistake that I realized too late.
